Local History of Jackson, Ohio

Farm Day 1887, Jackson, Ohio

Saltboiler Times is a work in progress. This site will present lots of stories about Jackson, Ohio, arranged in several projects. The first project consists of a series of oral histories narrated by World War Two veterans, all from Jackson. In the future I hope to include oral histories by locally notable persons. We can tell the story of the self-propelled steam vehicle which served as the centerpiece of trhe 1887 Farm Day celebration on the streets of Jackson. The role of the Appalachian Opera House in the town. And the day Buffalo Bill came to town.

The general reader may find the World War II oral histories of interest. In a sense they gauge the national effort in that war, because you may suppose that every town had veterans with similar stories, of duty, bravery, and, when the occasion demanded it, heroism.
